What's Our Story?
Bronwen Lodato has been making jewelry for as long as she can remember. Her inspiration stems from a life lived in motion. The idea began in her 20's while instructing backcountry expeditions for Outward Bound; Bronwen began fielding requests for jewelry that was strong enough to withstand the rigors of the outdoors but still be delicate enough to feel sexy. An early seed was planted and 12 years later she launched the Bronwen Jewelry brand at the Outdoor Retailer show in 2008. Since then, the artisan brand has been steadily and organically growing and is today the leader in an "Active Jewelry" category that the Bronwen brand pioneered. Bronwen herself is fueled by outdoor adventure to stoke her creativity and world travel to inform her collections and she and her incredibly loveable and talented team work happily out of their sunny and charming studio in downtown Bend, Oregon. When things get too crazy in the office, they simply lock the door and go skiing at Mt Bachelor, for a run on the river trail or stand up paddling on the Deschutes to get their heads on straight again. Bronwen Jewelry embodies the spirit of adventure and lifestyle of travel. Bronwen jewelry has integrity, is durable, innovative and gorgeous...a direct reflection of its very loyal collectors. At least once a day someone in the Bronwen office exclaims "hands down, we've got THE BEST customers!" Drop in to the studio if you are in Bend. 55 Minnesota Ave downtown directly (and conveniently) above The Wine Shop.
Our business is our lifestyle ... and our life practice.
Our business represents more than just making beautiful jewelry. Our work is a labor of love in the truest sense; what a gift it is to be able to make your passion your work and we are reminded of this gift daily. We believe that as business owners, it is our responsibility to conduct business in the same way we conduct our personal lives. We believe that it is the right choice to handcraft our jewelry in the USA using fairly traded artisan materials that support local economies. We believe that environmental and social equity is not a marketing strategy but rather a responsibility of conducting business on this planet. We certainly aren't perfect nor do we claim to be a "green" business, but if you learn about our efforts you'll see that our values and our actions are in line. We are a fully transparent company. If you'd like to learn more about our practices, we'd love to share with you. Contact us!
We are honored to partner with like-minded organizations that are working to make our industry more aware and more responsible about the way we do business moving forward. Please learn about the efforts of some of our partners:
Too Precious to Wear Campaign
Corals need your help. Found throughout the world, these animals are threatened by climate change, ocean acidification, pollution and increasingly, consumer demand. Reducing the impact on precious, deep-sea coral varieties that frequently are used for jewelry or decorative objects is one area that can easily be addressed by conscientious consumers and those in the jewelry industry. Leaders in the jewelry and home décor industries are helping reduce demand for precious corals by refusing to use real coral in their designs. Bronwen Jewelry, along with Tiffany & Co., Temple St. Clair, Lela Rose, Vena Cava, and Michael Aram, to name a few, are raising awareness about threats facing corals and taking action to conserve corals for the future of our ocean planet.
Earthworks and The No Dirty Gold Campaign
No Dirty Gold is an international campaign working to ensure that gold mining operations respect human rights and the environment. Because the vast majority of the gold that is mined is used to make jewelry, we are seeking the help of jewelry retailers to clean up dirty gold mining and preserve gold's reputation. We believe that jewelry retailers have a powerful role to play in helping to clean up the way gold is mined. Most retailers may not realize it but there is a powerful and direct link between the gold mining industry and the jewelry business. Because the gold mining industry is dependent on jewelry sales, retailers are in a unique position to drive change in the mining industry.
The Conservation Alliance
We are proud to be a member of the Conservation Alliance. The Conservation Alliance is an organization of outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Alliance funds have played a key role in protecting rivers, trails, wildlands and climbing areas throughout North America. Bronwen Jewelry derives so much inspiration and enjoyment from wild places that we are very happy to be part of this great organization.
The Hera Foundation
Bronwen Jewelry is part of the Partners in Action Program; we've designed a special Hera Lotus Necklace and we donate 10% of our Hera Necklace sales to support Hera. The goal of the HERA Partners in Action (PIA) program is to raise awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms while generating funds for the HERA Foundation’s OSB1 scientific grant program, the HERA community grant program and the public education programs conducted by the nonprofit.
