If the name of the store--Two Old Hippies--is not enough to lure you in, then just consider the timeless temptations of peace, love, and rock-n-roll. Now are we speaking the same language? Good, because the Two Old Hippies music/apparel/gift store in Nashville ain't no flowerchild head shop; it's a funky boutique with a modern cowboy aesthetic, selling everything from high-end Breedlove guitars (which are made in Bend, by the way!) to Levis to jewelry (which, naturally, includes Bronwen Jewelry).
Music has always played an important role in the lives of the boutique's owners, and the shop space dedicated to instruments and accessories is a testament to their passion. The owners' experiences with a time "when the concept of peace, love and rock n’ roll inspired a generation of free spirits" drives their vision for the store. The two old hippies, Tom and Molly (who are not actually all that old, but who are self-proclaimed hippies) are "young enough to embrace a world community, where generosity, compassion and equality are a way of life." Both loved the music of the era. "It was a time that defined us," says Tom. Molly notes, "It inspired the way we live today."
Two Old Hippies' laid-back approach to retail fashion stems from Molly's commitment to clothing that is stylish as well as comfortable. The lines of apparel, jewelry, and accessories curated by Molly are thoughtfully hip, without being trendy. In addition to select items from Bronwen Jewelry's line of handcrafted, artisan jewelry, Two Old Hippies carries special brands like Johnny Was, Spell & the Gypsy Collective, and Sanctuary. And that's just scratching the surface of the brands offered at Two Old Hippies.
Two Old Hippies is more than a store. There are two playing rooms where you can test out guitars. There are entire heels, boots, and handbags departments. There's a stage, with regular live music. And there's a stylist program, with in-house styling for artists.
To be sure, the Nashville location nurtures a country flair. But Two Old Hippies' aesthetic renders the cowboy vibe authentic, not cheesy. Were you to complement, say, your Old Gringo or Liberty Black boots with just the right accessories, you might select one of Bronwen's Calypso Tassel Necklaces or the Beaded Aurelia Necklace. Two Old Hippies is not just western, either. Spell & the Gypsy Collective's boho look simply cries out for one of Bronwen's Ribbon Wraps to summon the gypsy within. And since Molly is a jeans-and-button-down kind of girl, we'll applaud this spare choice and simply wear one of our favorite Tiny Charm necklaces and earrings in her honor.
As one would expect of a store born from the priorities of the 1960s, Two Old Hippies is not just focused on retail sales numbers. Tom and Molly donate to an extensive roster of charities. From human rights to housing, from poverty to pets, Two Hold Hippies upholds the spirit of giving and helping others. As Bronwen Jewelry shares a similar commitment to helping fix the world's problems, we celebrate Two Old Hippies' dedication to causes and communities.
Two Old Hippies enjoys a robust following of clients who comment on the store's website post-visit. All reviews are raving, often referencing hours or entire afternoons at the store. Many reference the excellent customer service; others note the incredible selection of retail offerings. But one comment seems to sum up both the store's vibe and its heritage: "Groovy store, man," it says.
